A Coeliac’s Sister

If you had told me a few years ago that I'd care about gluten, I’d have laughed at you in between bites of my curry puff.

Good food is a big part of my life. It's one of my favourite ways to experience the world. I love trying dishes I've never heard of before, planning entire holidays around restaurants, and discovering local gems. If I'm not out nomming, I'm usually in the kitchen experimenting with new ingredients, playing with flavours, or meal-prepping for the week. That love for food even led me to MasterChef Singapore 2023, where I continued exploring flavours and storytelling (albeit briefly; proud one-time loser🙋🏻‍♀️).

Then, my sister was diagnosed with coeliac disease, and my relationship with food took a shift.

Dining out was no longer a fun and spontaneous experience. It became layered with safety concerns, awareness, and constant questioning. Finding places she could eat without worry wasn’t always easy, and the more I searched, the more I realised how limited gluten-free resources were in Singapore.

So I started keeping my own list (on a filterable Excel spreadsheet. Peak Type A behaviour).

I made it a personal mission to seek out safe dining options - this included restaurant visits, countless emails asking about ingredients, and dropping by eateries just to chat with the staff. As the list (and the filter options) grew, I felt a smol glimmer of hope. Seeing all the options together made me feel gluten-free dining can be abundant in Singapore.

This curiosity slowly grew into a deeper interest in gluten-free food as a whole - not just where to find it, but what kind of ingredients are used around the world, what their properties are, how they work together, and so on.

Eventually, all the legwork (and curiosity) became The Coeliac Table.

Here, you’ll find a directory of gluten-free places to dine at. Alongside a collection of restaurants we've genuinely enjoyed, you’ll see dishes worth discovering, and the little bits of information I wish we'd known sooner. (Because good gluten-free options at an eatery shouldn't feel like insider knowledge.)

Whether you're coeliac, gluten intolerant, gluten curious, or simply trying to support someone you love, I'm glad you're here.

Pull up a chair. Good gluten-free finds should never be gatekept~
