5 Gluten-Free Friendly Spots in Singapore Worth Knowing About
I know you’ve Googled “gluten-free places in Singapore,” a million times, and seen Butcher’s Wife and Tiann’s pop up a million times.
Having dedicated gluten-free restaurants is so important, especially for the celiac community. I respect what they bring to the food scene in Singapore and wholeheartedly appreciate their service to gluten-intolerant folks.
However, as diners, we also need more variety than just a couple of go-to spots.
Finding safe gluten-free meals in Singapore isn’t always straightforward, so I wanted to share a few places I’ve personally been to - just to give you more options when you’re deciding where to eat.
This isn’t a list of certified gluten-free restaurants, but rather a mix of spots where it felt comfortable to ask questions, check ingredients, and eat with a bit more ease.
Here are 5 gluten-free friendly places in Singapore worth knowing about:
1. Yhingthai Palace
Cuisine: Thai
Address: 36 Purvis Street, Singapore 188613
Safe rating: Dedicated gluten-free menu
Halal: No
Vegan/Vegetarian options: Yes
Dairy-free options: Yes
Why it felt safe:
The staff does a good job bridging dietary communication between diners and the chef. The chef is also knowledgeable and careful with dietary requests, which made the entire experience feel reassuring.
Beyond being gluten-free friendly, the food itself is genuinely excellent Thai cuisine. Everything tasted homely, which is something I love to see in a restaurant. A personal observation, when comparing to the usual Thai restaurant offerings, the food here is a step above. The flavours are clean, bold, and overall more refined. This isn’t just a good gluten-free option, it’s a genuinely great Thai restaurant, and a personal favourite for the whole family.
2. Kotuwa
Cuisine: Sri Lankan
Address: 21A Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089128
Safe rating: Gluten-free aware (staff-guided)
Halal: No
Vegan/Vegetarian options: Vegetarian only
Dairy-free options: No
Why it felt safe:
On both visits, the staff demonstrated good knowledge of ingredients and gave consistent recommendations, which helped build trust in the dining experience. However, there isn’t a dedicated gluten-free menu, so much of the safety still depends on direct communication with the staff. Honestly, they could easily elevate the experience further by adding clear GF indicators on the menu - though I’m not quite sure what’s holding them back.
We ordered a spread of appams (which are traditionally gluten free), alongside rice, a curry, sambol, and a little dessert to end the meal. The flavours were familiar, comforting, and well executed. (NOTE: The dessert bowl itself is gluten-free, and you can order it without the biscuits. I (the gluten-full sister) just wanted it on the side as I was curious about it.)
I did leave wondering if they could launch a weekend brunch menu, because I would happily start my day with an egg appam, sweet sambol, and a cup of filter kaapi.
3. Tinto
Cuisine: Spanish
Address: 73 Duxton Road, Singapore 089532
Safe rating: Dedicated gluten-free menu
Halal: No
Vegan/Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available
Dairy-free options: Limited
Why it felt safe:
The restaurant provides a dedicated gluten-free menu, which makes ordering much easier. Staff are generally aware and able to guide you through safe options confidently.
4. Mami’s Tamales
Cuisine: Mexican
Address: 55 Keong Saik Road, #01-02, Singapore 089158
Safe rating: GF options stated in menu
Halal: No
Vegan/Vegetarian options: Yes
Dairy-free options: Vegan options available
Why it felt safe:
Gluten-free items are indicated on the menu, and we spoke with the staff about dietary requirements before ordering. That said, knowledge can vary between service staff, so the experience may still require a little more questioning and reassurance.
Tamales are still fairly new to Singapore, and this is one of the few places offering them. I find them to be a comforting meal, and both my sister and I really enjoy the flavours. However, the texture of the tamale can be a point of contention - after bringing a few friends here, I realised not everyone was a fan. But I personally had a great time with my pork tamale and esquites!
5. Whole Earth
Cuisine: Peranakan
Address: 76 Peck Seah St, Singapore 079331
Safe rating: GF options stated in menu
Halal: No
Vegan/Vegetarian options: Yes
Dairy-free options: Not clearly stated
Why it felt safe:
We’ve been here many times over the years, and the staff is always completely unfazed by gluten-free requests. The food and service has been consistent across visits, which has made this a trusted favourite for the whole family.
It’s also a fully vegetarian restaurant, so if you’re a vegetarian or vegan coeliac, this place truly has your name on it.
The menu has a great variety too; sambal dishes, steamed vegetables, tofu, and more! So you could easily order something different every time you visit. Plus, the food is consistent and comforting, so we keep finding ourselves coming back!
These places aren’t perfect. None of them have dedicated GF kitchen, and they all pose some level of cross-contamination risk. That said, these restaurants are part of a growing number of eateries in Singapore becoming more aware of dietary needs. And we all have different thresholds and comfort levels when it comes to gluten. My hope is that this list gives a few more options beyond the strict few.
